These are photographs taken in and around Settle in north Yorkshire. As you can see, its a beautiful area. If you click on each thumbnail, it will open the full-size image, no larger than 1024 pixels high and 1024 pixels wide.
These photographs were scanned onto Picture CD by Kodak, and Ive only managed to put on 27 out of the 36 or so I had processed. Some of the photographs were scanned abysmally by Kodak, such that theres precious little detail in the shadowy areas, and no amount of correction in Photoshop can deal with it. They would have to be re-scanned with the contrast and brightness corrected for each frame scanned. Photo CD is a much better system, but more expensive, hence I used Picture CD. Each of these images have been corrected in Photoshop, usually to bring out detail in dark areas, by highlighting the mid-tones, as well as a little colour correction. Theres a bit of a green bias on the raw JPGs on the CD, which Ive corrected by applying a little magenta. This makes a change, as theres usually a magenta bias on the raw JPGs on Picture CD. Apart from that, the colours you see on these JPGs are exactly as I saw them myself. As I had no lends hood for this camera, Ive suffered lens flare on some of the photos, but thats something I have to live with, and hope you dont find it too distracting. I had to wait a long time for the sun to get into the right position (or rather, for the clouds to lift) before I took some of these photos. Just goes to prove that patience is needed when photographing in this part of the world.
If you wish to use any of these photographs on your site, please ask before you do so. Provided its for non-commercial use, Ill probably grant permission, provided I receive acknowledgement whereever you use my photographs. I can also make available the highest resolution raw JPGs (1536×1024) from the CD, at a cost of £5 should anyone need them.
